What We Do

Since 2020, Our Streets have provided over one million fresh meals to people in need.

Today, we prepare and distribute over 700 meals every day for shelters, service providers, and community partners. We serve more than 12 shelters throughout the Portland metro area, including Clackamas and Vancouver.

Why We Do It

Food is a fundamental human right, and those experiencing housing insecurity often lack access to nutritious, well-rounded food. We mitigate this inaccessibility by providing hundreds of freshly prepared meals every single day to shelters, service providers, and community partners.

Food As Medicine

The importance of food extends far beyond sustenance as a means of survival. In a time where the majority of our food is produced through industrial agriculture, nutritional value has become secondary. When addressing food insecurity within underserved communities, processed foods are oftentimes at the forefront of provision. This is done for a multitude of reasons ranging from costs to availability to longer shelf-lives. However, this means that whole foods are not as readily accessible. Understanding this reality, we aim to go a step further when preparing meals for our community: we believe in healing people from the inside out through nutritious, well-rounded meals.

Our Devotion to Food Justice

Food justice is a movement that draws on environmental justice, racial equality, and various social movements to address hunger in an equitable and comprehensive way. As a social justice organization that works to address hunger on a daily basis, food justice is an integral part of our mission.
